This study aims at a historical reconstruction and critical evaluation of Kant’s arguments against Cartesian skepticism from the pre-critical period up to the “Reflexionen zum Idealismus” (1788-1793). The motivation at the basis of this research stems from the conviction that, despite the attention that Kant interpreters have always devoted to Kant’s confrontation with the problem of idealism, and the merits of recent systematic accounts, there are still gaps and inaccuracies that obscure a proper understanding of this subject, as well as its significance for Kant’s entire philosophy, and its interest for the contemporary debate on skepticism.
