The authors point out what kind of pathology is encountered in the region around the orbit, and describe their experience after 14 years of orbital echographical diagnosis. They particularly focused their attention on: (1) Diseases of the lacrimal apparatus, (2) Pathology of the paranasal sinuses. In the lacrimal apparatus they have investigated both the lacrimal gland and the lacrimal passages which are affected by different types of pathology, mainly inflammatory or neoplastic for the gland and mainly infammatory and consequently obstructive for the passages. In diseases of the paranasal sinuses they singled out three groups of pathologies: (1) Inflammatory (sinusitis); (2) Traumatic (bone fractures, etc); (3) Tumors (carcinoma, sarcoma, papilloma of Ewing, mucocele etc).
