A special journey in the history of the English Language is the starting point of this book. It tries to describe a wide contact linguistic pohenomenon, taht between English and Italian form a new point of view. The book traces back all the route along which the English langauge develops to show how it has always been in contanct with other languages and what its reactions have been. The work is mainly based on the contact between English and Italian, a language that belongs to what Kachru named the expanding circle and should not be creative. Unlike common belied the research shows hoe Italy displays a creative behaviour in English, although it is not a linguistic but communicative creative behaviour. The researdch os based on both quantitative and qualitative data.

Un singolare viaggio nella diacronia della lingua inglese apre questo lavoro che tenta di mostrare una ampio fenomeno di contatto linguistico, quello tra inglese e italiano, da un punto di vista nuovo. Il testo ripercorre le tappe evolutive della lingua inglese per mostrare come essa sia stata spesso in contatto con altre lingue e come ne sia uscita permeabile e generosa. Il lavoro descrive il suo contatto con l'Italia, un luogo appartenente a quello che Kachru definisce expanding circle e che, proprio per definizione, non dovrebbe essere creativo. dalla ricerca di evince, invece, che non è possibile sostenere la totale assenza di creatività. Ciò che non si riscontra è una creatività lingusitica mentre è presente e visibile una creativia comunicativa, che forse dovrebbe entrare a far parte dei modelli analitici utilizzati per descrivere e valutare al diffusione e le carateristiche dei vari 'inglesi'. La ricerca si basa su dati qualitativi e quantitatvi.
