This paper, in memory of dear colleague Lucia Gionfriddo, is a survey of basic results and open problems on strict colourings of quadruple systems of types S(3,4,v) and S(2,4,v). Two kinds of vertex colourings are discussed: a) each block contains two vertices of the same color; b) each block contains two vertices of the same colour and two vertices of distinct colours.
