We present some results on the modification of the vibrational features of alkanethiol self assembled monolayers upon ion irradiation (H+ 100 keV ions) through Surface Enhanced Spectroscopies. These monolayers are chemisorbed onto rough silver surfaces as checked by AFM. Low fluences (10(12)-10(14) ions/cm(2)) ion irradiation will be used to induce simple chemical reactions in alkanethiol molecules seen through the loss of CH3 stretching features and formation of C=C double bonds.
