A SIT for knowing, managing, preserving Catania’s historical architectural heritage

The contemporary age, whose main features are wireless and fast communications, interpersonal relations and interconnections between things, is founded on a society characterized by the integration/interaction of various things, material and immaterial ones, which are linked together: creating a new culture made of connections. This is the interactive hypertext society: a complex network of relations which manages diversified knowledge exchanges involving several fields (i.e. geographical, economical, cultural) through an integrated process of knowledge. The different relation of scale, the complexity of the present features, the multi-dimension of objects have produced different kinds of information requiring a flexible instrument that is able to transcribe images, charts, texts and symbols in a single model of representation. In this research the A.applied to urban centre of Catania a software geomatics (GIS), a subject which explains phenomenons that can be observed at a territorial scale, starting from knowledge and proper instruments that are able to acquire, integrate, file, treat, analize, manage and distribute georeffered spatial data. The redaction in the GIS sector regarding the computerized archival on the urban area of Catania allows operating projections, Datum changes, transformations related to coordinate systems or also allowing the treatment of important data and spatial information as if they were any kind of graphic systems settings.
