The aim of this paper is to analyze the possibility of using the FDDI inside the MAC sublayer as a backbone network for a distributed process control system. The evaluation of the throughput and delay, obtained by simulation, shows the good overall behaviour of the considered solution, giving quantitative performance results which can be used as a support for the design of the network.
