The thermotropic behaviour of multilamellar liposomes prepared from Mixtures of vitarnin D3 and dipalmitoylmosphatidylcholine has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It is shown that vitamin D3 has a marked effect on the gel-liquid crystalline transition of dipalmitoylmosphatidylcholine. The pretransition seen in pure sample of dipalmitoylmosphatidylcholine is undetectable at small mole fractions of vitamin D3 (0.03). The main transition is shifted to lower temperatures and becomes broader in the presence of vitamin D3 The enthalpy change of the main transition decreases with increasing the vitamin D3 content. These effects suggest that the vitamin may intercalate among the lipid chain and the physical state of the lipid bilayer is affected by vitamin D3/phospholipid mole
