Abstract

In Eastern Sicily , the 18th century was deeplycharacterized by an artistic renovation linked tothe rebuilding fervor following the catastrophicevents which hit the Noto Valley at the end of the17th century. As far as this period is concerned, the researchwork tends to develop a new methodology of crit- ical review on the works that, both on small andbig scales, have characterized the inner and outerspaces of religious buildings, their altars and theirfacades. It is difficult to diachronically read these becausethere are very few historical documents whichcan testify the architectural design. If the project design is a graphic-historical document telling about the geometrical apparatus ofthe architectural element in its formal and symbolic relationships, the survey carried out throughadvanced technologies is fundamental in thebackwards survey
