The shock structure problem is investigated in the framework of the Israel theory of irreversible thermodynamics in the ultrarelativistic limit. It is shown that a regular shock structure may exist only for low Mach numbers. Similarities and differences with the classical case studied by Anile and Majorana are discussed.
