The possibility to induce mutations in plants by using ion irradiation at intermediate energies (not so intensely investigated up to now) has been studied in the frame of the IENBIO experiment at LNS-INFN Laboratories. A 12C beam of energy 62 MeV/A has been used to irradiate scions, cuttings and seeds at different doses. Preliminary results show that for both seeds (soya and bean) and cuttings (Bouganvillea and Chrysanthemum) the germination percentage remains about 100% also at high irradiation doses (1000 Gy and 200 Gy respectively) but a slowing in the growth (seedlings length and stem height) on increasing the doses has been observed.

Abstract
The possibility to induce mutations in plants by using ion irradiation at intermediate energies (not so intensely investigated up to now) has been studied in the frame of the IENBIO experiment at LNS-INFN Laboratories. A 12C beam of energy 62 MeV/A has been used to irradiate scions, cuttings and seeds at different doses. Preliminary results show that for both seeds (soya and bean) and cuttings (Bouganvillea and Chrysanthemum) the germination percentage remains about 100% also at high irradiation doses (1000 Gy and 200 Gy respectively) but a slowing in the growth (seedlings length and stem height) on increasing the doses has been observed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
