This paper aims to evaluate the thermal and ventilation regimes inside an open livestock building for dairy cattle located in Sicily, in relation to the geometry of the building and the climatic conditions of the site. To this aim, a monitoring of the climatic conditions and of the main microclimatic parameters in different point inside a livestock building was carried out. Data analysis allowed to describe the main ventilation regimes inside the building. Subsequently, different simulations were carried out by using a CFD software applying some measured variables as boundary conditions, with the aim to evaluate the differences in air ventilation inside the building in relation to changes of the opening area and for different climatic conditions.
