The seismic microzoning of the Straits of Messina area is presented in this study. Such area has been choosen as a test site in the frame of studies concerning the microzoning of areas, located in the eastern part of Sicily, having a very high level of seismic risk. Aim of the research is to evaluate the frequency response of various sites to the same seismìc input, depending on local peculiarities. Microtremors or noise, was used instead of earthquakes as a seismic wave source, paying particular care both in the stage of field measurements and during the data processing of records collected in each site. Tests on the reliability of results obtained were made through comparison with both theoretical models and maps of mìcrozoning which were drawn through interpretation of data concerning the 1908 earthquake.
