Unlike for the philosophers of the platonic tradition, ancient and late antique (from Plato to Proclus), in Aristotle's thought the theme of evil does not seem to play an important role, except for ethics, where it intersects with the notions of human freedom and moral responsability and declines in all those vicious behavior and overall lack of measurement, leading to discrepancies and lack of harmony in the individual and in the state. However, a careful examination of numerous occurrences of words forming the vocabulary of evil in the Corpus aristotelicum shows also a stromng preesnce of this concept and a concern for the question, also in other areas of the Aristotelian reflection and in many other works, from Rhetoric to Categories, from Physics to Metaphysics, and gives way to reconstruct a conception of evil that is not only a moral one. This article aims to present a review of the meanings of the notion of evil in Aristotle, through a comparison with the main Platonic positions on the same subject, especially with regard to the relationship between matter and evil and between evil and divine.
