This paper is focused on the current migratory configurations in the Mediterranean, a highly controversial geopoli- tical region that has recently rediscovered a new centrality, owing to unprecedented mi- gratory routes and dynamics dependent both on structural factors and contingent ones. The analysis aims at highlighting the scenario of the contemporary demographic displa- cements, in particular those fomented by the so-called «Arab Spring» of 2011, set in the wider theoretical framework of the studies about migrations and globalisation. As a result, the main goal is to evaluate the impact exerted by these (old and new) migratory flows in the Mediterra- nean, above all those provoked a deeply upsetting geopolitical emergency such as the «Arab revolution», in order to understand to what extent they can influence the transnatio- nal economic and political relations of the whole region.
