Ecosistema Scuola 2016 is the annual report of Legambiente that underlined the use condition of a relevant part of the Italian public real estate: the School Buildings. The 89,3% of these buildings properly designed as schools was realised before entering into force the Earthquakesproof law (1974). From the energetic point of view the operative conditions are not better: the schools realized after 1980 are complied to 373/76 law but that it is not sufficient for the present condition. Also the 10/1991 law hadn’t the expected output in order to improve the integration of energy saving devices and the use of renewable resources to produce energy. From this picture of the state of operation of the Italian school building heritage, it is clear that school buildings need timely retraining. It is not just about improving the quality of the building, but most importantly to ensure optimum conditions for users: pupils, teachers, staff, who are there for most of the day. The paper proposed aims to outline a design methodology for retrofitting school buildings, that to solve problems of Safety, Comfort and Environmental Preservation. These objectives are related to the building obsolescence: The space organization is closed to the pedagogic principles. What we want to highlight is the relationship between the Technological System and the Environmental System in accordance with the principles governing each Building Recovery project. The contribution will be accompanied by case studies exemplifying the proposed method whose experimentation was conducted during the compilation of the Bachelor thesis.
