The forthcoming withdrawal of Great Britain from the EU poses, among others, the serious issue about the destiny to be reserved, in the 2019 European elections, to the 73 seats currently occupied by the MEPs elected in the British constituencies. Therefore, the study analyses different hypothetical solutions, fostering the distribution of these seats on the basis of transnational lists of candidates, presented by the so-called European parties and to be elected in a joint constituency embracing the whole territory of the Union. Despite the fact that a similar proposal had been presented by the Commission for the Constitutional Affairs of the European Parliament, the recent Resolution on the topic finally approved by the same Parliament rejected this suggestion, missing a big opportunity to re-launch the process of political integration in Europe through such a relevant, possible reform of the European Electoral Act.
