L’ «altra, che vostra fu». L’alterità nella novella di Gualtieri e Griselda (Decameron, X, 10)

The essay is dedicated to the last novella of the Decameron, which is one of the most studied. It focuses on the final answer given by Griselda to Gualtieri, interpreting it as the last of the “tests” that the woman has been subjected to, and highlighting its decisive role in the plot. The Griselda's final answer is read as an emblem of her condition of alterity and of the consciousness that the woman has of it. Starting from there, the dynamics of alterity are been investigated in the novella, the reasons of the action carried out by Gualtieri of taking as his wife a poor peasant are focused, the importance of the choice of the other person with whom they are sharing their life is highlighted, and the open, problematic nature of this famous story, far from being reducible to a closed exemplum, is revealed

Il saggio è dedicato all’ ultima novella del Decameron, una delle più studiate. Mette a fuoco la risposta conclusiva data da Griselda a Gualtieri, interpretandola come l’ ultima delle prove a cui è stata sottoposta la donna, ed evidenziandone la funzione risolutiva nell’intreccio. La risposta conclusiva di Griselda viene letta come emblema della sua condizione di alterità e della coscienza che la donna stessa ne ha. A partire da essa sono indagate le dinamiche dell’alterità nella novella, si focalizzano le ragioni dell’azione compiuta da Gualtieri nel prendere come moglie una povera contadina, si evidenziano l’importanza del motivo della scelta dell’altra (o dell’altro) con cui condividere la vita, e si rileva la natura aperta, problematica, della novella, tutt’altro che riducibile ad un exemplum chiuso
