L’impegno e il ruolo di Gregorio Magno nella risoluzione dei conflitti: la testimonianza del Registrum epistularum

The figure of Gregory the Great has been the subject of numerous studies, aimed at deepening aspects of his pontificate, literary production, diplomatic activity, etc. In this article we examine the testimonies, contained in the Registrum epistularum, concerning the commitment of the Bishop of Rome to the resolution of conflicts; it is a subject so far addressed from perspectives concerning the political, religious or private spheres from time to time. Through an overall review, as proposed here, the intention is, instead, to give a more complete and exhaustive picture of the importance that striving for peace had in the life of the pontiff and, at the same time, to offer new interpretative approaches relating to the modus cogitandi et agendi of Gregory.

La figura di Gregorio Magno è stata oggetto di numerosissimi studi, volti ad approfondire aspetti del suo pontificato, della produzione letteraria, dell’attività diplomatica, ecc… Nel presente articolo si prendono in esame le testimonianze, contenute nel Registrum epistularum, concernenti l’impegno profuso dal vescovo di Roma nella risoluzione dei conflitti; si tratta di un tema finora affrontato da prospettive riguardanti di volta in volta l’ambito politico, quello religioso o la sfera privata. Attraverso un riesame complessivo, come quello proposto in questa sede, si intende, invece, restituire un quadro più completo ed esaustivo dell’importanza che la tensione alla pace ebbe nella vita del pontefice e, nel contempo, offrire nuovi approcci interpretativi relativi al modus cogitandi et agendi di Gregorio.
