This article first summarises the achievements of the EU and its fight against environmental crime, focusing on challenges and possible legislative developments (section 2). Then it discusses a few aspects of environmental crime in the EU Member States (section 3) and focuses on specific strategies to improve the effectiveness of the fight against environmental crime (section 4), on the importance of cross-border cooperation (section 5) and on the conditions for effectiveness of legal remedies against environmental crime (section 6). Final observations conclude (section 7).
