Abstract

Male accessory gland infections/inflammations (MAGI), which are highly prevalent in the general population, severely impact on quality of life due to low urinary tract symptoms, sexual dysfunctions and infertility. Despite an evidence-based diagnostic strategy has been developed, their diagnosis is challenging due to the technical limits of the currently available investigations. Systematic proteomic profiling of seminal plasma may represent a promising novel tool to better clarify some aspects concerning the role of MAGI on the quality of sperm parameters and to provide functional information on seminal leucocyte subpopulation in patients with isolated leukocytospermia.
