This descriptive care can be related to a mentality, transmitted by the sources, which considered the landscape as an element to be dominated with the technique. its expression are Arches and piers founded in water on which the villas stand: the building suspended on the sea was considered a luxury, especially if equipped with a fishpond. The technical analysis of coastal and submerged monuments has in recent decades reached a major understanding of these building techniques in opus caementicium according to the Vitruvian methods, which reveal the close relationship between the pictorial motifs and the archaeological reality.
