This paper aims at describing the role of Higher Education Institutions in the integration process of asylum seekers and refugees in European countries. It is focused on the opportunities and the challenges that universities have to face both politically and strategically and in terms of educational practices. Concepts related to universities “social responsibility” and “Third Mission” are also highlighted, according to the new challenges placed by civil society.
