Il Museo degli Architetti del Val di Noto

The convent of S. Antonino da Padova, already restored by the Superintendency of Syracuse, in the rooms located on the ground floor (south and east side) currently contains the “Museum of the Baroque Maecenas”. The project of re-use of the remaining part is being elaborated, which will be destined to the “Museum of Architects of Val di Noto”. This stems from the consideration that the major works of the Baroque of south-eastern Sicily, such as the church of S. Giorgio in Ragusa Ibla, the church of S. Giorgio in Modica, the churches of S. Carlo and S. Chiara as well as the tower of Belvedere and S. Domenico in Noto, were designed and built by the architects of Noto Rosario Gagliardi, Paolo Labisi and Vincenzo Sinatra. Also noted that many other Baroque works of the eighteenth century in cities such as, Ispica, Avola, Comiso, Floridia, Scicli, Vizzini, Caltagirone, Priolo and Palazzolo were designed by architects and masters originating from Noto, such as Corrado and Giuseppe Mazza, an in-depth historical archive research was carried out with the aim of acquiring information relating to the life, education and works of these architects, which is considered appropriate to exhibit in a museum.
