Abstract

The epigraphic documentation of the regio VII includes 18 physicians, of whom at least three – Asclepiades from Pergamon, Gaius Calpurnius Asclepiades from Prusa ad Olympum and Diodotus from Tyana – certainly from the Greek-Eastern area of the Empire and active between the 1st century B.C. (?) and III A.D. The “thermal” landscape of Etruria undoubtedly revealed itself, due to its particular geomorphological characteristics, particularly suited to the therapeutic vocation and to the knowledge and skills of these three micrasiatic professionals, all coming from cities where hydrotherapy was widely practiced for the treatment of various diseases.
