Nevertheless,in the history of the Churchvarious Roman pontiffs were tried andsometimes deposed by secular or ecclesiasticalauthorities. The paper examinessome of these cases in the light of thecanonical tradition.
Il Romano Pontefice non può esseregiudicato da alcuna autorità umana(can. 1404 CIC). Questo principio è radicatonella tradizione canonica e discendedal primato di giurisdizione chespetta al Papa in forza del diritto divino.Nonostante ciò, nella storia della Chiesadiversi Pontefici Romani furono giudicatie talvolta deposti da autorità ecclesiasticheo laiche.
