The mechanisms of involvement in political life, other conditions being equal, still vary with respect to gender. Social networks in real life (friends, family, coworkers, and acquaintances in political and social organizations) condition political participation and are very important to explain the engagement and the empowerment of women through their inclusion in the public sphere. Analysis of personal networks allows us to understand the different mechanisms contributing to the involvement of men or women and to observe the success or failure of these mechanisms in encouraging political discussion and participation. It may permit us to detect the causes of gender segregation with respect to participation. This separation emerges fromanalysis of the different patterns of relational dynamics with respect to the context. Similar considerations also invest the structure of relations in a digital environment, especially in a political dimension, which can be seen as an extension of relations and interest in the offline world.
