Abstract—Interoperability in all the levels of acommunication architecture for automation applicationscannot be easily satisfied because control devices aregenerally based on different technologies andcommunication protocols. This paper deals with theinteroperability of a well-known communication standardfor home and building automation, i.e. the KNX. Currentliterature presents several papers demonstrating that OPCUnified Architecture (OPC UA) can provide a cohesive,secure and reliable cross platform framework forinteroperability in automation environment; someapproaches propose the use of OPC UA to achieveinteroperability of KNX. Starting from the currentproposals, in this paper the authors propose furtherimprovements always aimed to integrate KNX and OPC UAinformation model.
