The production of IL-2 and the expression of its surface (Tac) and soluble (sIL-2R) receptors have been studied in elderly patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis (HD). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), at 0, 5 and 24 hr during HD were tested by using biological, immunofluorescence and immuno-enzymatic tests. There was a slight increase in IL-2 production during HD, accompanied by a reduced Tac and enhanced sIL-2R receptors, as compared to the healthy elderly subjects. The results show that the blood-membrane contact still represents an unresolved problem during HD in elderly subjects.

Abstract
The production of IL-2 and the expression of its surface (Tac) and soluble (sIL-2R) receptors have been studied in elderly patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis (HD). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), at 0, 5 and 24 hr during HD were tested by using biological, immunofluorescence and immuno-enzymatic tests. There was a slight increase in IL-2 production during HD, accompanied by a reduced Tac and enhanced sIL-2R receptors, as compared to the healthy elderly subjects. The results show that the blood-membrane contact still represents an unresolved problem during HD in elderly subjects.File in questo prodotto:
