The He-6 + C-12 elastic and inelastic scattering and the He-6 + C-12 --> alpha + C-14 reaction have been measured using a 18.0 MeV He-6 beam. Experimental results for the elastic scattering are in fair agreement with optical model predictions, using the potentials found in the analysis of Li-6 scattering on C-12 at similar energies. In triple coincidences, the He-6 + C-12 --> Be-10 + 2alpha reactions were clearly seen, with the Be-10 nucleus left in ground and several excited states. The dominant mechanism of this reaction is sequential decay through cluster states of C-14. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
