Effects of the general anesthetics on the central nervous system

Currently the potentialities and the limits of the generalanesthetics on the CNS (Central Nervous System) are still matterof study. Concerning this, recent scientific achievementsraise perplexity against the neuroprotective effects of generalanesthetics.In this study the authors want to focus both the neuroprotectiveand neurotoxic effects scientifically tested on animalsamples. Aware that today wide clinical experiments havefailed the purpose to individualize the relationship betweenexposure to general anesthetics and neurotoxicity, they concludeaffirming that a cautious use of the various anaestheticagents used today can avoid the onset of side- effects, sometimeseven irreversible.

Le potenzialità ed i limiti degli anestetici generali sulS.N.C. sono attualmente tuttora oggetto di studio. Recentiacquisizioni scientifiche sollevano a tal proposito perplessitàriguardo a effetti neuroprotettivi degli stessi. In questo studiogli autori si propongono di metterre a fuoco sia gli effetti neuroprotettiviche quelli neurotossici scientificamente provati sumodelli animali.Consapevoli che oggi estesi trial clinici hanno fallitonell’obiettivo di individuare il rapporto tra esposizione aglianestetici generali e neurotossicità, concludono affermandoche un uso giudizioso dei vari agenti anestetici oggi adoperatipuò evitare l’insorgenza di effetti indesiderati, a volte ancheirreversibili.
