The authors report their experience on 3 cases of Budd-Chiari syndrome treated with liver transplantation. In two patients the disorder of the circulation was determined by the presence of membranes into inferior vein cava and in the other by an iatrogenic occlusion of the right suprahepatic vein. Two patients arrived in chronic terminal liver failure and the third received an emergency liver transplant. In two patients anticoagulation was started from the immediate postoperative stage. No recurrence of the syndrome occurred and the three patients were alive 62, 24 and 3 months after liver transplant.

Abstract

The authors report their experience on 3 cases of Budd-Chiari syndrome treated with liver transplantation. In two patients the disorder of the circulation was determined by the presence of membranes into inferior vein cava and in the other by an iatrogenic occlusion of the right suprahepatic vein. Two patients arrived in chronic terminal liver failure and the third received an emergency liver transplant. In two patients anticoagulation was started from the immediate postoperative stage. No recurrence of the syndrome occurred and the three patients were alive 62, 24 and 3 months after liver transplant.
