Abstract The effect of the new immunomodulating synthetic dipeptide pidotimod on some human immune functions was studied after ex vivo administration in healthy elderly subjects, as a model of acquired immune deficit. Results showed that treatment with pidotimod enhanced mitogen-induced lymphocyte proliferation and γ-IFN production. The drug slightly reduced IL-6 content in supernatants from adherent monocytes, while it did not significantly affect polyclonal Ig synthesis. These findings further support the biological response modifying activity of pidotimod in human subjects
