Wine tourism in Sicily: an empirical analysis of the demand. The study of wine touristdemand is essential to the development of wine tourism and to help wine producers to manage winetourism supply. Wine tourism has been growing substantially in the last decade in Italy as well as inSicily, which represents a strongly attractive area about what concerns wine tourism. However, in thisemerging field there is still a lack of research regarding winery visitors and wine tourists in general.The paper focuses on wine tourism experience and consumer behaviour. It aims to explore attitudesand characteristics of wine tourists in Sicily to better understand the wine tourism phenomenon. Inorder to reach this goal, a survey has been carried out at 16 Sicilian wineries embodied to theMovimento Turismo del Vino, using a self-administered questionnaire. This research is exploratory.The results replicate those observed in other surveys and show that Sicilian wine tourists are likely tobe correspondent to the wine tourist’s profile defined on the basis of similar research.
