This survey deals with the WorldFIP protocol, with a special focus on the MAC layer and its timing analysis.The basic idea below WorlFip is to consider all variables relevant to the application process as a distributed database which is periodically refreshed in order to maintain values of the variables updated. This provides a deterministic framework for the exchange of process variables produced by sensors, processed by PLCs or Process Computers and consumed by Actuators.
