This paper focuses on a particular tradition of pottery making that, according to recent petrographic studies, was shared by several production groups who were active in the Mesara from EM IIA to MM IIB. It aims to explain the formation of this technological tradition and the reasons and modalities of its diachronic and synchronic - i.e. from one generation of potters to the next and among the potters of the region- on the basis of the evidence provided by petrographic analyses and by new archaeological data provided by Phaistos.
