Based on the testimony of Pietro Carrera (1639) and Giovan Battista de Grossis (1647), a new critical edition is presented of the fragment of the Chronicon urbis Catinae of Lorenzo Bolano (XVI-XVII c.) describing the so-called ‘Arch of Marcellus’ in Catania (demolished after the earthquake of 1693). The last edition was that of G. Libertini (1921). For the first time Bolano’s text is also translated and given a detailed commentary. Finally, there is a review of available images and cartographic representations of the arch and of information about it provided by other local historians.
