Survey and Representation of the complexity of ancient theaters and amphitheatresAbstractThe survey and the representation of ancient theatres and amphitheatres introduce some interestingspecificities. Their geometric conformation, trunk conic with circular directrix for the theaters and with directrixplanned on the polycentric arc for the amphitheatres, gives the idea for some observations. On the onehandthe relief needs a special approach for their spatial conformation, on the other hand their representation doesnot allow to project on an only plan the restored parts, especially for the raised parts. So the representationof the elevation, with the orthogonal traditional projections, does not permit to have restorations in the realform and size. The only solutionis that everything happens in 3D. It is completely possible to talk aboutreliefs and restoration processed and finished in 3D. If anything the two-dimensional projection is a necessityfor the visualization. Consequently, covered ambulatories placed below the cave, superior ambulatories,barrelvaults with inclined generatrices, projecting wings of the building- “versure” surmounted by vaultedroofs, are detected and returned in their spatiality. In the following part there are the results of some studiescarried out on some ancient places of performance in the eastern Sicily, such as the theater of Taormina, theamphitheater and the theater of Syracuse, and others.

Rilievo e Rappresentazione della complessità di Anfiteatri e Teatri antichiIl rilievo e la rappresentazione dei teatri antichi e degli anfiteatri presenta alcune specificità di particolare interesse. La loro conformazione geometrica, tronco conica con direttrice circolare per i teatri e con direttrice impostata sull’arco policentrico per gli anfiteatri, offre lo spunto su alcune riflessioni. Da una parte il rilievo necessita di un approccio particolare per la loro conformazione spaziale, dall’altra la loro rappresentazione, per le parti in elevazione non consente di proiettare su di un unico piano le parti restituite. Quindi la rappresentazione dell’alzato, con le tradizionali proiezioni ortogonali, non consente di avere restituzioni in vera forma e grandezza. L’unica soluzione è che tutto avvenga in 3D. Si può parlare a pieno titolo di rilievi e di restituzioni elaborate e completate in 3D. La proiezione bidimensionale semmai è una necessità per la visualizzazione. Così ambulacri coperti posti al di sotto delle cavea, ambulacri superiori, volte a botte con generatrici inclinate, versure sormontate da coperture voltate, vengono rilevate e restituite nella loro spazialità. Di seguito si vogliono dare i risultati di alcuni studi effettuati su alcuni antichi luoghi di spettacolo della Sicilia orientale, sul teatro di Taormina, sull’Anfiteatro di Siracusa, sul teatro di Siracusa.
