The several restoration interventions in the Bellomo Palace throughout the 20th century tell a stratified history of a building which still is a city icon with a destiny tied to the medieval and modern art museum. During the first half of the 20th century, four different intervention campaigns thoroughly modified and amended the aspect of the palace. As it often happens, the restoration interventions and the historic studies affect each other. In the case of our Palace, the monument enhancement determined significant effects on the historical interpretation of the building, inducing ideas of a federician origin. New constructions of the town history and of its historical heritage lead to the revelation of new aspects of its identity, other than those deriving from the myth of the classical Syracuse.

La storia novecentesca dei restauri di palazzo Bellomo racconta una vicenda stratificata in cui l’edificio, ancora oggi vera e propria icona cittadina, lega il proprio destino a quello del museo d’arte medievale e moderna. Abstract
