The North Eastern Complex of Phaistos has been the focus in the recent years of many articles which attempted to clarify its relative and absolute chronology and its architectural function. However, some problems still remained unsolved, especially for the Vano 101, where the famous Disk of Phaistos was found, and in order to find more evidence in summer 2013 a new architectonic study and cleaning activities have been undertaken, which demonstrated that Vano 101 and 102 are only the last of three successive buildings spanning from the end of MMIIB (Building A) to MM IIIAearly (Building B). The short life of each of these buildings and their monumentality seems to confirm the hypothesis of a frenetic activity following probably the effects of seismic events and attempts of reconstruction, which only in mature MMIIIA will end in an organic planning.

Abstract
The North Eastern Complex of Phaistos has been the focus in the recent years of many articles which attempted to clarify its relative and absolute chronology and its architectural function. However, some problems still remained unsolved, especially for the Vano 101, where the famous Disk of Phaistos was found, and in order to find more evidence in summer 2013 a new architectonic study and cleaning activities have been undertaken, which demonstrated that Vano 101 and 102 are only the last of three successive buildings spanning from the end of MMIIB (Building A) to MM IIIAearly (Building B). The short life of each of these buildings and their monumentality seems to confirm the hypothesis of a frenetic activity following probably the effects of seismic events and attempts of reconstruction, which only in mature MMIIIA will end in an organic planning.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
