Scarites (Parallelomorphus) laevigatus, Ponto-Mediterranean halophilous Carabid Beetle, is an outstanding element of the coastal land zoocoenosis, dwelling on the sand nearby the seawater. Starting on 1997 we carried out the monitoring of the presence and the numerical size of its populations along some Mediterranean sandy coasts: in particular on the eastern Sicilian ones comprised between the Catania harbour and the Bay of Agnone we performed biennial surveys in four stations, different in the level of human pressure. The surveys show that the populations of the species are in a generalized decline; it appears depending on the anthropic impacts on the coasts.
