La tesi presenta una carta archeologica subacquea della Sicilia orientale.
La gestione e l'analisi dei dati è stata possibile attraverso la creazione di un database relazionale, dove sono state inserite tutte le informazioni relative alle scoperte sottomarine della Sicilia orientale.
Considerando la grande quantità dei ritrovamenti, è stato necessario limitare il campo di indagine alla costa ionica dell'isola, da Messina a Siracusa
In questo settore di costa sono presenti numerosi siti archeologici in cui è possibile osservare
resti di strutture portuali, tuttavia la maggior parte delle informazioni proviene dal recupero di relitti sommersi e dai loro carichi, studiati ed analizzati in modo approfondito attraverso pubblicazioni scientifiche spesso difficili da reperire e consultare. Questo rappresenta un problema frequentemente affrontato da ricercatori. Lo scopo del database è quello di raccogliere e uniformare i dati archeologici e le informazioni topografiche disponibili e di renderli accessibili attraverso la creazione di un sito internet che può essere utilizzato non solo dal PC ma da qualunque dispositivo mobile (tablet, smartphone e simili). L'uso di strumenti digitali nella gestione dei dati ha permesso uno studio analitico delle evidenze. A queste informazioni è stata aggiunta una documentazione grafica e fotografica. Tutti i dati raccolti nel database sono stati utilizzati per una chiara ed approfondita analisi dei siti organizzati in carte di distribuzione.
The research consists of a complete archaeological map of underwater archaeology of Eastern Sicily:
data management and analysis were possible through the creation of a relational database, where the
notable amount of information related to the underwater discoveries of Eastern Sicily were all listed.
Considering the great amount of these discoveries, it was necessary to limit the investigation to the
ionian coast of the island, from Messina to Syracuse.
In this sector of the coastline, there are many archaeological sites where it’s possible to observe the
rests of harbour structures: however, the greatest part of the information originates from the recovery
of submerged wreckages and their loads, extensively studied and analyzed through scientific
publications, often difficult to find and consult. This is a recurring problem for researchers
Indeed, the purpose of the database is to collect and standardize the available topographical and
archaeological data and to make them accessible through the creation of an internet site that can be
used not only by the PC but also from every mobile device (tablet, smartphone and similar). The use of
digital tools in managing big data has allowed an analytical study of the evidences. Moreover, the
graphic and photographic documentation has been added. All the data included in the database have
been used for a clear and deepened analysis of the sites, organized in distribution maps.
