A work that deals with the analysis of persuasive political rhetoric in a British wartime context. It uses the Appraisal Framework (Martin and White 2005) to analyse the persuasive language of two of Britain's wartime Prime Ministers, Winston Churchill and Tony Blair. It finds that, while much of Churchill's persuasive rhetoric was aimed at improving domestic morale, Blair's was more concerned with the manufacture of consent in a divided population.
