The research deals with motherhood and gender in the Western Middle Ages. Attitudes and laws penalize mothers, good and cruel, to the benefit of the male component and of the patrilineal society. There are, however, openings and recognition that gratify the maternal role.
La ricerca approfondisce il tema del sentimento materno e del rapporto generazionale al femminile nel Medioevo occidentale. Atteggiamenti mentali e disposizioni legislative penalizzavano le madri, buone e crudeli, a vantaggio della componente maschile e dell’impostazione patrilineare della società. Non mancano, però, aperture e riconoscimenti che gratificano il ruolo materno.
