The area of the "geo-archaeological park of the Mt. Scalpello are already included as geological sites in the Regional Geosite Catalogue of Sicily (L.R. n° 25 of 11.04.2012 – D.A. n° 87 of 11.06.12) for the high and peculiar geological, morphological and archaeological significance.Since January 2008 between the Province of Catania, the Union of Municipalities "Corone degli Erei" and the Municipality of Castel di Judica was drafted the “Protocollo d’Intesa” for the implementation of the Archaeological and Nature Park of the Monte Judica and Monte Turcisi, and opening of the relative Museum, accessibility and refurbishment of the historical-cultural and environmental heritage of the area. This note is a contribution and a "reminder" to share knowledge, feasibility studies, projects and programs aimed at promoting the establishment and implementation of the Park. The area is of particular interest, both for the rich Triassic faunas, only partially studied at the beginning of ‘900, and preserved in the Museum of Geology and Paleontology of Catania University, both because it is the only area of eastern Sicily in which a Mesozoic calcareous and siliceous succession, referred to the oceanic Ionian palaeo domain (Ionides) crops out in a more external position than similar imerese and sicanian facies widely present in western Sicily. The geological site combines multidisciplinary interests: Geological, Archaeological, Natural, Cultural. This area, which is subject to archaeological and landscape restrictions since 1998, is of great importance because it was the meeting point of cultures and civilizations.
