A general architecture, which performs A/D conversion and fuzzification operation on the same functional block, is presented. The solution exploits the Sigma-Delta modulation approach, allows saving silicon area and is characterized by good flexibility and programmability. A CMOS implementation is also proposed and factors limiting the resolution are analytically evaluated. Simulations, carried out on a 0.35-μm standard technology, confirmed theoretical results.
