The interchange between iconic sign and writing, which is made possible by the comic medium, finds its ideal realization in the works of the Austrian artist Brigitta Falkner (*1959). With great creativity, the author experiments countless possibilities of making collages with image and writing, mixing them, unifying them or transforming one into the other. Such an approach with texts means that drawings and images are not simply included into the literary discourse: they receive an active role, which makes them to compete with writing itself, in order to get the main role within the text. They clearly stand out as bearers of meaning in the language of poetry, and thus they contribute to subjecting literature to the strictest rules of combinatorial writing. In this way, not only anagrammatic, lipogrammatic, palindromic comics are born, but new cross-media genres (such as the lipogrammatic storyboard) are created. At the same time, quotes from every era and from all fields of knowledge enter within the text, as well as elements of pop culture and parodic literary references, thus expanding the boundaries of literature in a postmodern perspective.
L’interscambio fra segno iconico e scrittura reso possibile dal medium fumetto trova la sua realizzazione ideale nelle opere della austriaca Brigitta Falkner (*1959). Con grande ricchezza di inventiva l’autrice sperimenta innumerevoli possibilità di fare collage di immagine e scrittura, di mescolarle, di unificarle o di trasformare le une nell’altra. Un simile approccio con i testi significa che disegni e immagini non vengono semplicemente inseriti nel discorso letterario, ma che ad essi viene attribuito un ruolo attivo, che fa sì si contendano con la scrittura il ruolo principale nel testo. Essi si impongono con evidenza nella lingua della poesia come portatrici di significato, e contribuiscono così a sottomettere la letteratura alle più severe regole della scrittura combinatoria. In questo modo non solo nascono fumetti anagrammatici, lipogrammatici, palindromici, ma vengono creati nuovi generi intermediali (come lo storyboard lipogrammatico), e al contempo entrano nel testo citazioni da ogni epoca e da tutti i campi del sapere, elementi della cultura pop, riferimenti letterari parodici, ampliando così in prospettiva postmoderna i confini della letteratura.
