The goal of the experimental research is the possible re-use for the large amount of ash and lapilli produced by the eruptions of Mt. Etna that, when removed by the local government from the public spaces, have to be disposed of in landfill, with huge areas occupation and costs. Specifically, the the study concerns the recycling of the material in the manufacture of traditional building materials [1]. The main mechanical properties of mortar and concrete with different replacement ratio of the fine fraction of natural aggregates with recycled volcanic aggregates are determined and compared with the properties of reference materials. The influence on the performance of the products of a preliminary washing process of the recycled aggregates is also investigated.

Abstract
The goal of the experimental research is the possible re-use for the large amount of ash and lapilli produced by the eruptions of Mt. Etna that, when removed by the local government from the public spaces, have to be disposed of in landfill, with huge areas occupation and costs. Specifically, the the study concerns the recycling of the material in the manufacture of traditional building materials [1]. The main mechanical properties of mortar and concrete with different replacement ratio of the fine fraction of natural aggregates with recycled volcanic aggregates are determined and compared with the properties of reference materials. The influence on the performance of the products of a preliminary washing process of the recycled aggregates is also investigated.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
