Leading Groups and Local Power in Sicily. From the Allied Landings (7/10/1943) to the End of the “First Republic” (1992-1994)

My paper aims to draw as close as possible a picture of the formation and evolution of local governing classes from the birth of the Italian Republic to the rst great crisis coinciding with the end of large mass parties in the early 1990s of the XX century. rough an analysis of the relationship between local government and central government, we will try to verify how and how much the local governing classes can overcome the transition from the Fascist regime to the Republic or if the period 1943-1948 marks a real and deep change in the political Sicilian class.
