Is it possible to evaluate the competitive advantage created by the combination of cultural heritage (tangible and intangible) of a given territory and the enhancement of quality agri-food products obtained there? This paper aims to answer this question, using the analysis scheme of the Resource-based view (RBV) model, the applicability of which, in my view, reveals itself to be particularly fruitful in the territory covered by Castelli del Nisseno that, from an administrative point of view, extends over a good part of three provinces of Sicily (Caltanissetta, Enna, and Agrigento) and involves twelve municipalities overall. In this territory, in fact, a broad awareness has matured, particularly over the last few years, that resources such as “cultural heritage” and “quality agri-food products” can constitute useful tools for a better enhancement in terms of development that, also in relation to other circumstances, may be considered to be something of a strategic area in which the creation of a specific Agritourism District could be envisaged. Moving from a brief analysis of the literature that exists on the subject of competitive advantage for quality agri-food products, in this paper we will consider if and what role such a feature could assume, in respect to the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of the territory, for a full enhancement of the quality agri-food products originating in the Castelli del Nisseno, and we will develop some principal reflections on this point.
